Austin Outdoor Studio (AOS) is in the process of finishing up another custom steel staircase. This monorail differs from most as the owner wanted crisp tight corners and didn’t want to see the typical large radius of tubing used on most monorails. They also wanted it have a conformal look by having the risers and treads fabricated out of 1/4″ plate. We were able to design all the weld joints of the staircase so they were either hidden under wooden treads or concealed by the cladding. This allowed for minimal grinding after installation and will ensure a tight clean …

We teamed up with Pilgrim Building Company and A Parallel Architecture on this staircase. We’ve been waiting a while to get the finished pictures up of this staircase. This conformal staircase is built from 5/8″ plate steel. We fabricated the staircase offsite and then some how managed to get this beast installed in the house. Surprisingly, once installed this staircase looks amazingly light and perfectly delicate.

Earlier this year AOS was contacted to bid some work at the “W”. At the time, we had no idea how much work we would end up doing and how much our work would contribute to the overall look and feel of the entire first floor lobby of the hotel. The hotel is filled with blackened steel that works incredibly well with all the walnut wood, plaster walls and concrete floors.
